Audra is a singular artist because of her range and range of her skills as a performer and songwriter. Audra McDonald, who won six Tony Awards in a row and two Grammy Awards in 2015 was recognized as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people. President Barack Obama also awarded her the National Medal of Arts -the highest honor in America for achievements in this field. Blessed with a luminous soprano, and an unrivalled talent of telling the truth in a dramatic manner her voice is as at ease on Broadway and on the opera on stage as she is in film and television roles. Apart from her theater job, she is also pursuing been a busy recording and concert artist. She performs regularly in some of the top venues around the world. McDonald is from Fresno California, where she was raised by a clan that included musicians. In the Juilliard School in New York City, McDonald received training as a classical singer. She won her first Tony Award in 1994 for the best performance of an Actress in a musical called Carousel in the Lincoln Center Theater. The following four years, she received two more Tony Awards as a featured actor for her performances in Terrence Mcnally's Broadway debuts Master Class (1996) and Ragtime (1998). The total number of Tony Awards is unprecedented at 3 before the age of 30. In 2004, she received her 4th Tony by starring in A Raisin in the Sun with Sean Diddy Combs. Then in 2013, she took home her 5th Tony as well as her first in the leading actress category. When she won the sixth Tony Award in 2014 Billie Holiday's portrayal as Lady Day in Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill was Broadway's most decorated production. In 2017, she also was the first to make the West End London West End debut and was nominated to receive the Olivier Award. Along with setting the record as the most awards in a competition category for an actor, she also became the first person ever to be awarded in each of the four types of acting. The credits she has in the theater are The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). Twelfth Night was McDonald's Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut. Shuffle Along is the Making of the Musical Seduction of 1921, and All That Followed. Frankie Johnny in the Clair de Lune. and Ohio State Murders. McDonald was introduced to the television audience as a dramatic actress by Peabody Award winning CBS's Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters first 100 years. In the following years, she starred alongside Kathy Bates, Victor Garber and others in the acclaimed Disney/ABC remake of Annie in 1999, McDonald appeared as been a regular character in the NBC show Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald's first Emmy was awarded for her performance in the HBO movie version of Pulitzer Prize winner Wit. Directed by Mike Nichols with Emma Thompson as the main character the actress returned to network TV in 2003. The show she starred in was Mister Sterling and produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. Beginning in 2006, she was part of the crew of The Bedford Diaries on the WB. The Bedford Diaries and over the next season she had a recurring role on the television series of NBC, Kidnapped. McDonald was awarded an 4th Emmy nomination in recognition of her role in the HBO film special Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill in the year 2016. The Bite will be a six-episode drama about a pandemic coproduced by Spectrum Originals, CBS Studios and Taylor Schilling in 2021. McDonald first played U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in CBS's Legal action thriller The Good Wife, in 2009. In the year 2018, she returned to the role on The Good Fight for Paramount+ as a regular in the series. She received three Critics Choice Award Nominations. The actress is a featured guest on the HBO series The Gilded Age by Julian Fellowes.
