
Leona Louise Lewis, born on April 3, 1985, is an actress, singer, and activist who hails from Britain. Her birthplace and childhood was in London Borough of Islington and attended Croydon's BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. Lewis achieved national recognition when she was awarded the third season on The X Factor 2006 and won a contract worth PS1,000,000 and Syco music. A song by Kelly Clarkson"A Moment Like This" was her winner. The track surpassed 50,000 digital downloads in just 30 minutes. It also remained at number one for four weeks. In February 2007 Lewis was signed to a contract for five albums with the United States with Clive Davis's record label, J Records. Lewis's success only increased when she dropped her debut album Spirit (2007). The album is certified platinum within the UK and became the fourth most-sold album in the 2000s. In the words of the Official Charts Company, Spirit is the most-sold debut album from female artists in the 21st century. "Bleeding Love" The lead single from Spirit, remained at #1 for the UK for seven weeks. The single was also the UK's best-selling single. It also was the top-selling single sold in the US that year. Lewis won the Billboard Best New Artist Award subsequent year. Echo is her second studio album. She also wrote the song "I See You" on behalf of Avatar. Lewis was also the first to release "Collide," a joint collaboration together with Swedish DJ Avicii. In 2011 she also released Hurt The Extended Play from her first EP. Glassheart (2012) is her 3rd album of studio work. Lewis drew inspiration from electronic music and dubstep. In the course of her Glassheart Tour in 2013, she started recording music for her debut Christmas album. The following year, her Christmas with Love was released, and included her lead single "One more sleep" was ranked third on the charts in the UK. This chart position resulted in Lewis her the only British woman solo artist in the top 5 spots, having eight songs. She also overtook Olivia Newton-John's record for seven singles.
